Ciao ( pronounced “chow”), my mind was wandering down a path just wondering what the Italian word for Hello was. Turns out it’s Ciao – who knew? I thought Ciao was generally used in the same way as we use “bye” or “goodbye”. Anyway {see how my mind works – always entertaining!}, Hello!
We’ve had an interesting few days around our house. You know that whole it happens in threes thing? Here’s the latest from my house:
- I think I already mentioned my camera/flash setup is no longer working – I use this setup a lot to list items on my Etsy stores.
sad! - Hubby woke up to an electrical kind of smell Friday night. The smell was coming from our furnace. Not Good – but luckily it was just the fan motor burning out and our house was not on fire {just trying to look at the bright side!} Why do these things always happen on a Friday night? Ever notice that? We chose to use our wood stove and brave out the cold until today (Monday).
- The internal disk drive on hubby’s laptop died {needless to say it had a lot of important data – it has a fairly recent backup, but still a very stressful event}. Hopefully this is the third and final annoyance for awhile!
Now for the good news. This morning I couldn’t find a thing I wanted to do – there’s only a gazillion things I should be doing, but none of those would do. Then I remembered I said I was going to drag out my tripod and try to shoot some pictures. It was cold, damp, dark and rainy, but I decided I wanted to try my luck at some available light photography anyway. Here are some shots I took:
This is our trusty Vermont Wood Stove – hubby has been getting up at 4:00 to make sure at least part of our house was warm. He’s such a good guy!
This is a vintage, tin sink that I found at one of our local Antique shops and am in love with – we use it for making coffee.
Before I painted the top red, I was storing this lovely in my garage. My Mother and Father-in-Law (FIL) came for a visit. We take our own trash to the dump – we don’t have a garbage company that comes weekly. When my husband and FIL were loading the truck to go to the dump, my FIL started moving my tin sink! Can you believe it???
Other than the reflection of the light in the pic, this one didn’t come out too bad. It shows part of my Christmas tree and our Christmas Bears. I love bright, primary colors and this is my purple accent wall – the other walls in my family room and kitchen are yellow. I’ve had the STOP sign for at least 30 something years – it came from a County building and not from the side of the road – don’t worry!
I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was about 25 years old. Coke was the real thing that got me up and going in the mornings. Red is also my go-to color for my family room/dining room area. When I was looking for a dog food storage solution, this Vintage Coke Cooler was perfect.
A few select Christmas decorations:
The hutch pictured above is directly in front of sliding glass doors leading to the back porch, so the lighting was better in this shot.
Now, I realize that these pictures are not great and some of them have some focus issues (even though I was using auto focus), but I just wanted to share that I had A LOT of fun shooting with the tripod and trying my hand at some available light photography. This will also be a good way to go back and look at improvements I’ve made after a month or so. Does anybody know why this post is entitled “One question Answered”? Photography (all kinds) has got to be one of my answers to the “What do I do next?” questions. I really enjoy it.
